Understanding the person behind the behaviour
At Assisted Living Care Group, we recognise that behaviour is often a form of communication.
Many of the people we support have experienced trauma, loss, disrupted attachments, placement breakdowns, instability or significant life challenges.
Rather than asking:
“What’s wrong with this person?”
We ask:
“What has happened to this person?”
By understanding a person’s experiences, relationships and individual story, we can provide support that promotes healing, stability and positive outcomes.
Trauma can affect how people see themselves, how they relate to others and how they experience the world around them. It can impact emotional regulation, relationships, trust, confidence and a person’s sense of safety.
Our trauma-informed approach recognises that behaviours often develop as survival responses to difficult experiences. Rather than focusing solely on behaviours, we seek to understand the needs that sit beneath them.
We believe meaningful progress begins with safety.
Before people can explore difficult experiences or engage fully in therapeutic work, they need to feel emotionally and physically safe.
Our teams focus on creating environments where individuals experience:
These foundations help people build confidence, resilience and stronger relationships.
Relationships are at the heart of everything we do.
We know that healing often happens through safe, trusted and consistent relationships. Our teams work hard to create environments where people feel understood, respected and valued.
Through everyday interactions, we help individuals develop trust, strengthen emotional wellbeing and build positive connections with others.
Therapy doesn’t stop when a session ends.
We work collaboratively with:
Therapeutic recommendations are embedded into everyday support, ensuring individuals experience consistency across all areas of their lives.
We view behaviour as communication.
When someone is distressed, overwhelmed or struggling to express their needs, behaviour can become the language they use.
Our Positive Behaviour Support approach focuses on:
We focus on prevention, understanding and support rather than restriction.
Our aim is not simply to manage behaviours.
Our aim is to help people:
Because when people feel safe, supported and understood, they are far more likely to thrive.
